Children Love Skiing In Samoëns

Samoens CrecheSamoens, designated a "Famille Plus" resort, is a perfect place to spend time with children and the entire family.

Children are able to learn how to ski in the safe hands of the qualified ski instructors. The biginners area at Samoëns 1600 is a perfect place for the little ones to learn how to ski.

The childrens kindergarden ski area is also at Samoëns 1600 and those children using ESF instructors will be able to learn to ski and go for their various ski badges in complete safety.

Added to learing to ski there is a host of other activities for children to participate in ... such things as tobogganing and ice-skating.

Aside from winter sports there is also the children's "apre-ski". Depending on when you are visiting, the village will have organised early evening entertainment for children such as Santa arrives in the square on Christmas Eve, magician and puppet shows.

Parents wanting a little time to themselves can also take advantage of the wonderful Samoens Creche where children from 3 months to 6 years old are accepted.

For an exceptional holiday, Samoëns is the perfect place to... Breathe, Play and Smile with the entire family.

A Typical Day On The Grand Massif Ski Area

A typical day on the slopes.....we park the car in the enormous free car park area next to the Grand Massif Express gondola, in Samoëns, where there is never a queue, we buy our Grand Massif ski passes and board the 8 man seater gondola, which only takes 8 mins to ascend to 1600m altitude. The views are spectacular, we see the entire village of Samoëns, across to Sixt and can feel the snow getting closer. At the top, called Samoëns 1600, the sun is almost always shining, except when the snow is falling of course. Some days we look down and see Samoëns covered in cloud, what a feeling to be above the clouds.

We step off the gondola onto a sea of snow that extends for miles, in fact, 265km ! We pull out our Samoens piste map and our adventures start here....

We begin by heading to Morillon for a chocolate chaud (hot chocolate !) and a crepe. Morillon is a wonderful family ski resort, with gentle slopes and exquisite scenery. It is also the home town of Antoine Deneriaz, who won Gold in the men's downhill at the Turin Winter Olympics 2006. All over the town you will still see congratulation banners.

From here we head to Les Carroz, where the snow is good as it is fairly high and they have snow canons to ensure good snow conditions. Flaine is our next stop, where we could spend all day.....and as it is only a 40 minute ski from Samoëns, we do spend many days exploring all the pistes of Flaine. In Flaine we head to the highest point at 2500m and drop down into Sixt along the 14km piste de cascades.

Everyday skiing in Samoëns and the Grand Massif can be varied, fun and challenging. Stop at some of the great restaurants on the pistes for the local French food or just to soak up the sun with a nice coffee. Take your time to breathe, play and smile ...
